Thank you for showing so many interesting pictures. Now you have posed with us a big challenge: to identify all the unnamed places shown in the pictures so I invite the friends living in Veneto and in Friuli, or with a good knowledge of such regions, to have a look to the pictures and give a name to as many unnamed places as possible.
On my side I can add some info and I am questioning two captions. So:
WW1_0033: it is a Nieuport fighter: from the status of the wreck it is not possible to distiguish correctly the type, either a Ni.11 or a Ni.17.
WW1_0060: it is an Italian Caproni Ca.3 three engined bomber.
WW1_0115: it is an Austrian reconnaissance plane, possibly an UFAG C.1, but I have not enough elements to recognize it with certainity. Knowing the date of the picture could help.
WW1_0159: it is the Italian armoured car Lancia Z (almost correctly spelt in the caption in the picture)
WW1_0150: the writing on the gun carriage is Italian, either for 141st Assault Battalion (141° Batt(aglione) D' Ass(alto)) or 141st Siege Battery (141ª Batt(eria) d'Ass(edio)) so I miss the reference to the Infantry Regiment Nr:43 in the caption.
WW1_0266: the place indicated in the caption is wrongly identified: the Austro-Ungarian and the German Armies in WWI never arrived west of the Piave river so the picture cannot have been taken some 300 kilometers further west, in Liguria.
I will look again to all the pictures and will be happy to add any further information I may be able to supply.
Michele

PS: WW1_0257: the Italian cannon looks burnt and burst, certainly it is not burnished.

Dear Michele thank you very much for your precious information. I will update my site in the weekend.

I'm glad that you and other members found these pictures interesting. This is the reason makes me posted this collection in the internet for the entire world after 100 years.

Any information you, or other members, may have about these pictures could help me to complete this collection of my great grandfather.

Dear Michele,

I have updated my site.

WW1_0115: I don't have any informations. No comment at verso

WW1_0150: I writed here that the Picture was a sended Field mail from Infantry Regiment Nr:43
http://www.worldwaronephotos.com/Verso/WW1_0150B.jpg
WW1_0266: This place is indicated at the verso " Follo " , maybe another Follo?
http://www.worldwaronephotos.com/Verso/WW1_0266B.jpg

Everything I have is the comment at the verso. I posted in the verso section only the pictures with comments. http://www.worldwaronephotos.com/Verso/ For example: WW1_0xxxB is the verso from WW1_0xxx.

Dear Ierdna, it may be as you say, a transcript error and then Tollo (not Follo), which is a fraction of the town of GRIGNO in Trentino.Another element of great historical value is the so-called " Grigno Trincerone ", a mighty concrete site constructed by demolishing and raising the left bank of the Grigno stream during the First World War by the Army Genius of the Kingdom of Italy. It is a very long covered trench that develops for about seven hundred meters from the hamlet of Grigno to the confluence of the riverbed named the river Brenta. Along the road leading to the village of Selva you can find a recently restored calco, called Boro calchera, used in the past for the production of lime obtained by baking limestone rocks.Riccardo.

Unfortunately on-line translators are full of pitfalls: what in Italian is called "Genio Militare" in English is "Army Engineers".

Andrei (I suppose this is your name), congratulations: I think you have got the right one! Indeed Tollo, which was a possibility, is in Trentino and sounded to me not consistent in a set of pictures taken very evidently during the invasion of the Veneto in 1917, which was stopped at the Piave river: and the Tollo you have found is in the occupied zone and very close to the Piave (by the way, it is in an area where one of my preferred wines is produced: the Prosecco).

A minor adjustment:

WW1_0090: the picture shows the church of Santa Maria Assunta and the town hall of Valdobbiadene. The two buildingds are located in the main square of the town, whose current name is Piazza Marconi (I am sorry but I cannot trace the name it had in 1917).

How can I translate "Albergo Pontebba e R. Dogana"?

en: Hotel Albergo and Customs Dogana?
de: Hotel Albergo und Dogana Zoll?

I can see this inscription in photo 201 : http://www.worldwaronephotos.com/Landsc ... 1_0201.jpg

Albergo is the Italian for Hotel and R. stands for Reale, i.e. Royal, so I would translate:

Pontebba hotel and Royal Customs house.

In German it should be:

Pontebba Hotel und königlich Zollamt

but my knowledge of German is very elementary, so you should check.

A check in the 1922 Annual book of the Italian Touring Club, confirms that in Pontebba there was a "Pontebba Hotel" and a 1st class Customs office.

Can you help me with the most important thing for me?
My great grandfather Andreas Maraski.

He is in some photos and I don't know what he was (military rank) in the IR 43.

Sorry Andrei, but I am not the right person for recognizing uniforms and ranks: it is a field where I have no knowledge at all.

About the Pontebba Hotel: it is now closed, but the building is still there. You can see it at this link of the Street View of Google Maps:
https://www.google.it/maps/@46.5058397, ... 312!8i6656
The other buildings visible in your picture apparently are no longer there (or I am unable to identify them in their current shape).

Good idea to search places now with Street View.
Very interesting, the Hotel is like in the picture and the Royal Customs house didn't exist anymore.
I started to make a map and sometime I will visit all these places where my great grandfather was.
